3. Third international monument

Socialism aesthetics as related to structural schemes
Co-authored with Carolina Figueroa

Russian constructivism is nowadays one of the strongest aesthetical reference: from Rock band cover artworks to foundations on Zaha Hadid architectural production. What is remarkable on russian constructivism is the focus not only in the architectural space, but in the profound, symbiotic relationship between infrastructure and superstructure in society. This paper elaborates on the social and artistic impact of the Third International monument in the early socialists days. The information on its design, founded on its scarce documentation, draws us to consider it a great historical legacy innovating in its mathematical and structural conceptions, as well as is relation with people and culture. This demanded a precise theoretical examination, and a physical reconstruction of the original Vladimir Tatlin’s design.
